How to set up a Dial-In / Dial-Out VoIP/SIP Service?
I live in a foreign country, but my employer has VoIP service with a US-based telephone number. I am permitted to make calls within the assigned area code of this VoIP service, but must use a calling card if I want to dial out of this area code.
I wan to set up my own dial-in / dial-Out Service. In other words, I want to setup a machine to accept incoming calls, and then provide me the ability to dial out. I have a server I can use, so this part is no problem.
My question is, how would I go about setting this up? What software, additional hardware, etc. would I need?
It is impossible to setup my own hardware where I am. The hardware must be in the US, and I actually already have a machine I can host it on. What I need is a solution to add a dial-out feature set to Asterix or similar programs; or a provider (besides standard calling cards) that already does.
This doesn’t answer the question. I was hoping to get an answer that might help, not a dismissive suggestion.
Vagabond: The question is a litte confusing to me but let me try to answer it.
You said you need to know how to dial in/out from your service? Well first of all, what do you use for making calls? Softphone? Ip phone? You mentioned you are allowed to call to a certain area code.
Now I don’t think you need a server for receiving and outgoing calls and if you intend to use your companies VoIP service then I don’t think you can call outside of the area code you are permitted to.
Also you can not accept calls if your company didn’t provide you with incoming number. Now if you haven’t made any calls yet and just want to use the limited service you’ve got then all you need is a softphone (free) so you can make calls from your PC.
Or an ATA device so you can make calls from your regular home phone (you need to hook this device to the internet)
