Mas: A Growing Business’ Edge
When MAS was first introduced to the market during the 80s, it instantly gained a following by creating a reseller channel composed of mainly of CPAs. Its inclusion in Sage’s long line of application suites has made it even more in-demand not just as an accounting solution but as a complete ERP system. MAS comes in three versions depending on the size of the company as well as the complexity of the tasks that the application needs to perform. These versions are MAS 90, MAS 200 and MAS 500. Of the three, it is the MAS 500 that has been built from scratch with MS SQL Server, Visual Basic, and Microsoft Office Technology. Because of this, it can easily integrate with any Microsoft solution that you might already have. It also features modules that touch on wholesale distribution, manufacturing, time and project management, and CRM. It also allows for greater flexibility compared to MAS 90 and MAS 200. On the other hand, MAS 90 and MAS 200 are more suited for companies with simpler needs. However, MAS 200 offers more flexibility than MAS 90 and can even run using the lowest bandwidth such as in the case of modem and WAN connections. This is made possible by the fact that MAS 200 has a more powerful and scalable server. It is also able to separate the user-interface processing tasks to the actual processing and data management tasks by allowing the former to reside on an application server while the later runs on a thin client in the user’s workstation. The MAS90 software, the most widely used of the three, features modules and functionalities that touch on the core accounting, distribution, manufacturing, intelligence, customer relationship management, time and project management, and eBusiness, among others. These modules are subdivided into further modules. For example, Core Accounting features basic accounting procedures as well as other functions such as paperless processing, federal and state eFiling and reporting, and sales tax computation. The MAS 90 has the ability to work as a standalone or on Novell networks and Windows 2000/ 2003 networks as opposed to Sage MAS 200 which runs exclusively on Windows 2000/ 2003 as well as Novell networks. Both the MAS 90 software and the Sage MAS 200 come with n extended solutions options which you can avail of in order to maximize your MAS application.
