Why choose a compatible transceiver?
The easy answer to this question (as most other distributors will tell you), is product cost, but that is only one of the few benefits of choosing a Compatible Sfp, GBIC or XFP.
For example if gigabit speed is needed to run across a long point-to-point link, the engineer would assesses the distance between the link lengths and choose an appropriate SFP transceiver module native to the host device.
If a Cisco platform was in situ for example then the choice of modules would be limited to one of the following 1000mtrs* (GLC-SX-MM), 10km (GLC-LH-SM), 40km** (GLC-EX-SM) or the maximum 70km (GLC-ZX-SM).
With the compatible Advance SFP’s you can choose from a wide variety of distance limits from 550mtrs up to 100km in various increments with distances of 160km being reachable on the top product lines.
Other benefits offered solely on Advance compatible transceivers are the freedom to customise the transceiver to your individual requirement.
• Custom serial numbers can be produced both for the product label and also hard coded to the device itself.
• Customer logo’s can be also added to the device
• Latches can be colour coded for high density link identification
Netwerks also offer a re-coding service in the UK, this service means existing SFP’s can be adapted if the host device is to be changed. In some cases even cross-device compatibility is achievable.
